ABOUT US
Thomas & Cohen is a Chicago-based firm that provides adjusting and appraisal services for property insurance claims across the Midwest. The company was founded in 2018 by current CEO David Thomas and continues to be a family owned and operated business with an emphasis on personalized and excellent claim handling. We work as an independent insurance adjusting firm with a focus on meeting the needs of clients ranging from major nation-wide carriers, to small regional insurers, to local homeowners.
Since our beginnings, we have handled hundreds of residential and commercial property claims in the greater Chicago area, and have regularly accepted deployments to neighboring states when hailstorms or other disasters strike. We regularly work in Wisconsin, Indiana, and Iowa due to frequent hailstorms in those areas, and were extensively involved in adjusting claims and handling appraisals arising from the 2020 Iowa Derecho.

About the founder
David Thomas is the founder and current CEO of Thomas and Cohen. After moving to Chicago in 2011 he began working extensively with adjusting property insurance claims. These years of working with all types of insurers and policyholders gave him exposure to the unique challenges and frustrations faced by stakeholders in the field. However, it also gave him the vision for what a GREAT claims experience could look like, and the positive impact this could have on all parties involved. This led to the founding of Thomas and Cohen in 2018. Since then he has maintained the company’s commitment to excellence, and has branched out into working in appraisal and umpire work, and more recently to consulting and training.
